Another firearm about to be taken out found in Matara Court

The Matara Divisional Crimes Division Officials, yesterday recovered a firearm which was prepared to be taken away from the production room of the Matara Magistrate’s Court based on the information provided by three Multi Purpose Development Officials who are being detained and questioned by the investigators.

The Crime Division Officials have started investigation into a racket of stealing firearms from the production room of the Matara Magistrate’s Court and these three Multi Purpose Development Officers were arrested in this connection.

A senior police officer said that this firearm had been wrapped in a gunny bag and hidden in a place at the court production room.

Officials said that this firearm manufactured in the US can use 9mm ammunitions and it had been used for a murder that took place in Thudawa, Matara in 2014. Preliminary investigations have revealed that this firearm had been handed over to court by the Police.

Two businessmen who had brought two firearms which had been stolen from the court production room from these development officers were also arrested by Police yesterday. A broker who was involved in the deal is also among those arrested. It has been revealed that these two firearms had been brought by these two businessman at Rs.22,000.
