Anti-Corruption Bill vote postponed for next session

The debate on the Anti-Corruption Bill was held in Parliament yesterday (21), but the vote on it was postponed until the next session.

Commenting on this, the Leader of the House Minister Dr.Susil Premajayantha said that a decision will be taken in the Parliamentary Affairs Committee to hold the debate on this Bill for two more days in the next session of the House.

He also mentioned that taking into consideration the request made by the Sectoral Monitoring Committee for a law-abiding and disciplined society that more time is needed to discuss the Bill, it is decided to give two more days for the debate.

Sectoral Oversight Committee for a Just and Law-Abiding Society Chairman, MP W.D.J.Seneviratne said that several amendments have already been submitted regarding this Act.

He also asked for an opportunity to discuss the Bill further before passing it.

Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms Minister Dr.Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe said that it was suggested that the Bill for the protection of victims and witnesses of a crime should be passed in the next parliamentary week along with the Anti-Corruption Bill, because that Act has references related to the other Act.
