Antonians play host to Royal

Today at Bogambara Stadium St. Anthony’s College will host Royal College in their Dialog Schools Rugby League 2023 –Division one- Segment A, second Round encounter.Today’s clash is going to be an all important game for both schools. Although Antonians has the advantage of playing on their home town the Royal College challenge can be rated as an acid test. Given the season’s performance Royal College have the potential to rise to the occasion in today’s game.

Royal College are sparring no pain or efforts, they have been going through a kind of training that could not be out of place in this game, and the excitement has been mounting.

It will not be easy for the Antonians as some may think. Much will depend on their forwards who are good in loose play and the set pieces. Their pack has tactical players, who have rattled many good forwards from the opposition this season.

The Kandy school has managed to pick the best side, and have the ingredients to take the game away from the Royalists. Royalists too have the firepower to outrun the Antonians though they are out of their den.

Vidyartha Ananda clash

Today the 52nd rugby encounter between Vidyartha College and Ananda College, its played annually for the William Gopallawa Shield, will be played at the newly renovated rugby grounds at Rajagiriya.

These two schools first met in 1962 in rugby and the shield was presented by William Gopallawa in 1967.Out of the 51 games played so far Vidyartha College has won 28 games, Ananda College 21 and two drawn.
