Free train travel from A’pura to Mihintale from today till 23

Over 400 buses deployed to Anuradhapura and Mihintale

Cabinet Spokesman and Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana said that a special train service has been deployed from today (21) to 23 for pilgrims to travel free from Anuradhapura to Mihintale.

He was speaking at the weekly Cabinet media briefing held yesterday at the Government Information Department. He said that he hopes to provide the same service if the sponsors come forward on the other days as well.

In addition, the minister said that a special bus service has been deployed from Anuradhapura to Sri Maha Bodhi and more than 400 buses have been deployed to travel to Anuradhapura and Mihintale.

The newly built railway line from Anuradhapura to Mahinthale is about two km long. The railway line at Mihintale, which was started during late President Premadasa’s era completely abandoned and measures have been made to completely renovate and start up to Mihintale  and the train service from Anuradhapura to Mihintale was started.

After the Poson ceremony is over, it is used for other purposes. National Television provides publicity for Anuradhapura Poson Festival, Independent Television for Sithulpawwa Poson Festival and Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation for Poson Festivals in all parts of the country. The Security Forces including the Army are using their full strength for dansals and other activities. It is reported that there are more than 20,000 poson dansals. It has been reported that the largest number of dansals ever recorded in the history of Sri Lanka. For that, the private sector and the public sector provide support.

“We are holding a 21, 22 and 23 Poson zone within 13 kilometers of the district of Biyagama, Pitipana, Meegoda, Homagama, Panagoda in Colombo district.In the Mahinda Rajapaksa stadium, a rice dansela was held for about 60,000 people last year. This year the Dansala will be offered to around 100,000,000 persons.
