Senior Superintendent of Police in charge of Anuradhapura Division K. J. Pushpakumara has filed a complaint at the Anuradhapura Police Station yesterday (16) saying that a police Sergeant who had been transferred due to disciplinary reasons threatened him with death.

Sergeant Dissanayake, who is attached to the Anuradhapura Hurigaswewa Police Station, has also complained to the Anuradhapura Police stating

that the Senior Superintendent of Police Pushpakumara had threatened and scolded him and he had to do the same. This incident happened on June 12.

Based on a report received by the Senior Superintendent of Police that the police Sergeant was having a close relationship with a female officer working at the police station, this officer was transferred from the Hurigaswewa Police Station to the Vilachchiya Police Station.

This transfer has been given to this officer based on the exigencies of service. He has come to the Superintendent of Police office along with his wife to inquire about this. There they had to wait for hours and were not given a chance to meet the Senior Superintendent of Police. The sergeant told his personal assistant police officer that he wanted to meet the SSP, but the officer said that the transfer would not be cancelled at all.

Finally, after about five hours, the Sergeant got the opportunity to meet the Superintendent of Police, due to the intervention of a Chief Inspector working in the SSP’s office.

There, this Sergeant had told the SSP that he did not have an affair with the concerned officer and that she was his relative. Even the police officer’s wife told the SSP that it was true. It is stated that the SSP has said that this transfer will not be cancelled at all. Then this officer said that if he was transferred for disciplinary reasons, it should not be done under the pretext of a service requirement without mentioning the true reason. Police sources stated that there was a heated argument between the two.

In this regard, the SSP complained to the police and mentioned that the Sergeant entered his office with his wife and threw some papers on the table while asking why he had been transferred. The Senior Superintendent of Police also said that the sergeant then threatened him and asked him the reason for the transfer threatening to cancel it.

The SSP has also stated in his complaint that he made this transfer based on a report submitted to him after an investigation by the Hurigaswewa Police Station Officer-in-Charge to the Thambuttegama Assistant Superintendent of Police. The SSP has further stated in his complaint that this sergeant was provoked and abused with harsh words threatening him with death.

The SSP made this complaint after the sergeant lodged the complaint. A senior police officer stated that an investigation is being conducted by the Anuradhapura Deputy Inspector General of Police regarding both these complaints. The officer further mentioned that a complaint made by another female police officer that she was abused with obscene words by this Senior Superintendent of Police is also being investigated under the Anuradhapura Deputy Inspector General of Police.
