Appropriation Bill 2024 presented to Parliament

The Appropriation Bill for the financial year 2024, including government expenditure of Rs. 3,860 billion was presented to Parliament yesterday by Leader of the House and Minister Susil Premajayantha. An amount of Rs. 2,651 billion has been earmarked as recurrent expenditure.

This year, the highest amount of Rs. 886.1 billion has been allocated to the Public Administration, Home Affairs,

Provincial Councils, and Local Government Ministry. The Appropriation Bill has allocated Rs. 723.4 billion to the Finance, Economic Stabilization and National Policies Ministry, Rs. 423.7 billion to the Defence Ministry, Rs. 410.2 billion to the Health Ministry, Rs. 403.6 billion to the Transport and Highways Ministry and Rs.140.7 billion to the Public Security Ministry.

Rs. 6.60 billion has been allocated for the Office of the President and Rs. 1.15 billion for the Prime Minister’s office.

An amount of Rs. 10.6 billion has been allocated for the Buddha Sasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs Ministry, Rs. 25.5 billion for the Mass Media Ministry and Rs. 41.2 billion for the Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms Ministry.

An amount of Rs. 19.6 billion has been allocated for the Foreign Ministry, Rs. 2.2 billion for the Trade, Commerce and Food Security Ministry and Rs. 100.4 billion for the Agriculture Ministry.

Meanwhile, allocations have been made for each Ministry as follows: Power and Energy Ministry – Rs. 42.9 billion, Tourism and Lands Ministry – Rs. 19.1 billion, Urban Development and Housing Ministry – Rs.42.4 billion, Education Ministry – Rs. 237 billion and Plantation Industries Ministry – Rs.10 billion.

Industries Ministry – Rs. 9.10 billion, Fisheries Ministry – Rs. 7.0 billion, Environment Ministry – Rs. 2.13 billion, Wildlife and Forest Resources Conservation Ministry – Rs. 8.71 billion.

Water Supply and Estate Infrastructure Development Ministry – Rs.72.6 billion, Women, Child Affairs and Social Empowerment Ministry – Rs.74.5 billion, Ports, Shipping and Aviation Ministry – Rs.7.07 billion, Technology Ministry – Rs. 5.42 billion, Investment Promotion Ministry – Rs. 3.39 billion, Labour and Foreign Employment Ministry – Rs. 6.89 billion, Sports and Youth Affairs Ministry – Rs.10.5 billion and Irrigation Ministry – Rs. 84 billion.
