Around 9,000 out of the total fleet of 18,000 private buses were in operation in the country currently with the issuance of fuel for private buses through SLTB depots,Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association (LPBOA) Chairman Gemunu Wijerathne said.
He urged the public to use the passenger transport services since a sufficient number of buses have been added to the fleet.
He said 75percent of private buses are in operation currently due to the fuel supplied through SLTB filling stations.
However, he said there was a drastic drop in the number of passengers using private buses.
Further action will be taken to deploy around 12000 private buses across the country in coming days despite many shortcomings,”he added.
