Arts graduates must be recruited to Public Service – Opposition Leader

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said that although graduates could not be given jobs because of their Arts degree, the government could bring in low-quality eggs and sell them at a

higher price. Although this government has not been able to recruit Arts graduates to the Public Service, the programme of providing poor quality eggs to the people has not stopped and even in this bankrupt country, low quality, expired eggs are imported at a low price and given to society at a high price, and the public are of the opinion that large-scale egg smuggling is in operation

and the Opposition Leader said that those who are involved in it, should be revealed.

The Opposition Leader said that since this is a serious social issue, relevant responsible parties should provide an answer to the people and reveal whether this is a state policy.

Premadasa made these comments yesterday (1) during a discussion with the Unemployed Graduates Union.

As of now, there are nearly 30,000 unemployed graduates in our country, and the majority of them are Arts graduates and the government has failed to provide them with a sustainable

solution to their employment problem and that, as the fact that the country has gone bankrupt it is not possible to find jobs for them is not a suitable answer to be given to graduates, the Opposition Leader said.
