Ashen captures Maldives tennis title

Sri Lanka’s Ashen Silva reached another milestone in his career when he captured the Junior Boys’ Singles title at the Maldives Tennis Challenge 2022, held at the National Tennis Centre in Male yesterday.

In an all-Sri Lankan final encounter, Ashen displayed his skills and superb technique to defeat Ganuka Fernando in straight sets 6-1, 6-0 in exactly 50 minutes of play.

This was also the second time that Ashen had defeated Ganuka in this tournament, having earlier won the round-robin match 4-0, 4-0 in just over half an hour.

Earlier, in the semi-finals Ashen cruised to another convincing 4-0, 4-0 victory over Ayyub Shaheeb of the Maldives in just under 30 minutes of play while Ganuka outplayed another Maldives player Raim Maumoon 4-0, 4-0 in 22 minutes of play.

Players from Bahrain, Malaysia, Thailand, Oman, Maldives and Sri Lanka participated in this tournament in the age groups of Under-12, Under-14 and Junior Open Singles and Doubles.
