Asia Cup final – some highs and lows

India clinched the prestigious Asia Cup by defeating pathetic Sri Lanka easily by 10 wickets in the final which was concluded at R.Premadasa Stadium Colombo on Sunday. It was a very poor batting performances by Sri Lanka after electing to bat first and their innings lasted for just 15.2 overs and 90 minutes. Incidentally it was the 900th ODI played by Sri Lanka since its inception in 1975.

This was the biggest win in a ODI tournament final in terms of remaining balls – 263.

Number of highs and lows were recorded during this crucial encounter which was dominated by Asian giants India. India reached the winning target in 6.1 overs by scoring 51 for no loss.

India won the Asia Cup for the record 7th time (1984 1988 1991 1995 2010 2018 2023) while Sri Lanka won it in six times (1986 1997 2004 2008 2014 2022 ) Pakistan were the winners in 2000 and 2012.

Rohit Sharma now joined Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Mohammed Azharuddin as most successful captains with two Asia Cup tjtles each.

India now posted 10 Ten wicket victories in One Day Internationals with Sharma Captains 3 of them, the most by a leader.
