Asian Schools Chess Championships at Wadduwa
More than 400 players from 13 countries are participating at the 16th Asian Schools Chess Championships which already started on December 3 at Citrus Hotel, Wadduwa. The tournament will continue until December 11. The Chess Federation of Sri Lanka (CFSL) President Lakshman Wijesuriya said it is under the auspices of the Asian Chess Federation (ACF) and the World Chess Federation (FIDE) Sri Lanka was given the honour of hosting this event. “Actually It is an honour for Sri Lanka to host such a great event and the CFSL is planning to give plenty of trophies and medals to the winners.
The players from countries such as Bangladesh, India, Iran, Kazakhstan,
Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Maldives, Mongolia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and host Sri Lanka are competing in all categories of this event.
The event consists of six categories. They are Under 7, 9, 11, 13, 15 and Under 17. These categories have separate events for the Open and Girls. The event is governed by the General Regulations for FIDE competitions and the Rules.
The CFSL President who is also a Asian chess Federation senior official further said Sri Lanka chess players can get good exposure during this event while the juniors get good chance to move with foreign players during this seven-day event.
