Assault: Five including politician’s son released on bail

Western Province North Deputy Inspector General of Police Rohan Premaratne said that five persons, including a son of a politian, arrested by the Kiribathgoda Police for allegedly assaulting a student at a private class in Kiribathgoda were released on police bail.

The Kiribathgoda police said that the incident had occurred after the student gave a love letter to the girlfriend of the state minister’s son. Police said the female student is also studying in the same private class.

The student who was assaulted has been treated for injuries in a hospital, the police said.

Five including the son of the state minister, were arrested and released on bail in connection with this assault as the student concerned had sustained minor injuries.The police said that the state minister’s son had come to the location in a car.

The Kiribathgoda Police OIC stated that since there were media reports that a group of people dressed in black attire had arrived in a Defender jeep with the minister’s son, steps were taken to check the security cameras, but so far this has not been confirmed.

Police said that there is information that both sides involved in the incident are negotiating to settle the incident amicably and added if that happens there will be no legal proceedings with regards to the incident.
