Assistance for flood affected in Matara

Central Province Governor Lalith. U. Gamage handed over a stock of aid including dry food items worth nearly Rs.25 lakhs (2,500,000) to Matara District Secretary, Y. Wickramasiri on Monday (16). This financial assistance will help provide relief to the people of Matara district affected by floods and landslides due to bad weather conditions.

The Matara District Secretary told the Daily News that relief work for the people affected by the floods and landslides in Matara District will be implemented with the direct intervention of the Regional Secretaries of the respective Regional Secretaries and according to the requests of the Divisional Secretaries, aid including dry food items will be released as needed. With the intervention of the Central Province Governor, under the direction of the Chief Secretary of the Central Province, the aid provided by the institutions of the Central Province was donated for the affected people of Matara district.

Matara Additional District Secretary Kasun Wellaheva, Assistant District Secretary Lakmali Thenuwara, Assistant Director of Matara Disaster Management Coordinating Unit Lt.Col. Ariyawansa Kandambi and a group of officials representing the Central Province participated.
