Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage sentenced Olympic athlete Waruna Ranga Kumara Wimalawansa to two years’ rigorous imprisonment with hard labour for defrauding Rs. one million and sixty thousand.
The Magistrate who delivered the verdict of a case heard regarding this incident and sentenced the defendant to imprisonment also imposed a fine of one thousand five hundred rupees on the accused. If the fine was not paid, he was sentenced to two weeks imprisonment.
This order was delivered in relation to a case filed by the Colombo Fraud Investigation Division. The lawyer panel who represented the defendant by filing a motion requested court to provide the necessary documents to file an appeal in this case and the Magistrate ordered that the case be called on December 15 to confirm the related facts.
