Athletic coaches get monthly allowances from Damro

Sri Lanka Athletics (SLA) presented the first set of monthly allowances to the coaches whose athletes are representing Sri Lanka in the forthcoming Asian Games with the support of SLA’s main sponsor for Asian Games, Damro Holdings.

Each coach was presented Rs. 40,000. In addition to that they will be gifted with pair of branded deck shoes in the coming week as a part of this assistance which values around Rs. 400,000 in total.

13 coaches attended the meeting held at SLA headquarters at Torrington. They are Y.K Kularathna, Sajith Jayalal, Susantha Fernando, Pradeep Nishantha, Asanka Rajakaruna, Vimukthi de Soysa, S.P de Silva, A.D Nandawathi, Daminda Bandara, Harjan Rathnayaka, Anurdha Nanayakkara, Dilhan Aloka and Dilan Mendis.

This support will continue till Asian Games and SLA President Major General Palitha Fernando handed over the cash awards to the coaches.

Meanwhile, SLA has planned several programmes to support National athletes and coaches in the future and they are discussing giving maximum support to both athletes and coaches.

According to the president of SLA Rt Major General Palitha Fernando, they are focused on Asian Games in China while the athletes and their coaches get facilities from Damro which is very important during this hard period. We all are concerned about athletes but never neglected coaches.

Presently all coaches are guided by the Director of Coaches experienced I.M Ranasinghe who was a senior lecturer of Kelaniya University having vast knowledge about athletic coaching. He was a former senior official of the National Sports Science Institute and served in Brunei for more than ten years before once again joining SLA. He will accompany the Sri Lanka athletes as a coach at the Asian Games while SLA Vice President Lal Chandrakumara will join as the Manager.
