Athletic Nationals Stage-2 on August 9-10
The first-stage of the National Championship was held on May 21 to focus mainly on the ‘Road to Olympics’ athletics events.
Vice-President of SLA G. L. S. Perera said the Women’s 10,000m, Men’s 5,000m, Men’s pole vault, Men’s and Women’s discus throw, Men’s and Women’s triple jump, Women’s hammer throw, Men’s 800m and Men’s and Women’s 200m finals will be conducted on the first day of the meet.
The main attraction will be the Men’s and Women’s 200m finals. Amasha de Silva, Rumeshika Ratnayake, Lakshika Sugandi, Safiya Yamic are the key athletes for the 200m event.
Himasha Eshan, Kalinga Kumarage and Vinod Suranjaya de Silva will also compete in the Men’s 200m event.
The events to be worked off on the second day are Men’s 1000m, Women’s 5,000m, Women’s pole vault, Men’s and Women’s high jump, Men’s pole vault, Men’s 3,000m steeplechase, Men’s and Women’s 400m hurdles, Women’s long jump, Men’s hammer throw, Women’s shot put, Women’s 100m hurdles, Men’s and Women’s 1,500m.
Meanwhile, Olympic discard Nilani Ratnayake will compete in the Women’s 1,500m event.
Sarangi de Silva, the national long jump record holder, who won the Gold Medal at the recently concluded International Athletics Meet in Turkey, will also take part in this meet.
