More than twenty local athletic officials are taking part at the World Athletics Technical officials Education and Certification System (TOECS) level one course which is now in progress at the National Institute of Sports Science (NISS) at Torrington Square.
The Vice President of Sri Lanka Athletics G.L.S Perera said” This is the highest level qualification technical officials course one can locally achieve and it’s conducted by Sri Lanka Athletics to cover important area.
The goal of the TOECS is to improve the level of athletics officiating all over the world.
The objective of the Level I course is to provide participants with the theoretical and practical training required to make them capable of officiating at national level competitions and at international competitions held within the country.
The participants who successfully complete the course will receive an IAAF Level I Officiating Certificate. Those participants whose examination marks meet the required standards are eligible to attend a Level II course.
SLA has organised this training course with the experienced course director P.H.D Waidyatilleka and two course lecturers Erathai Arunampalam and Geetha Pathiranawasam helping SLA to conduct the course.
