Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage yesterday (24) issued notice on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to appear in Court on May 17 to inquire about the instructions given by the Attorney General to name Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Deshbandu Tennakoon as a suspect in the incident of assaulting Aragalaya protesters on May 9 last year.
Counsel Vajira Ranasinghe, who appeared in Court on behalf of Senior DIG Deshbandu Tennakoon, informed the Court that the Court of Appeal has issued an Interim Order preventing the execution of the letter sent to the Criminal Investigation Department by the Attorney General to name Senior DIG Deshbandu Tennakoon as a suspect in the attack on the Aragalaya activists.
The Counsel verbally informed the Court requesting permission to present a copy of the order to the Court.
