Avani Bentota refurbished for Rs. 300 mn maintaining Bawa style
Avani Bentota Resort which reopened after management change and a refurbishment of Rs. 300 million-plus marinating renowned architect Geoffrey Bawa’s signature style and an inimitable Dutch-colonial charm, will add more features to meet the modern-day demands of both local and foreign travellers.
One of the signature icons of the hotel the ‘Bawa Villa suite’ is also being currently refurbished and would be added to its portfolio of 75 keys soon which includes two suites and 72 deluxe, Superior and 16 standard rooms which were all recently renovated.
Offering the thrills and spills of water sports ‘Island water sports centre’ in the Bentota river too would be opened soon offering Jet Ski, Banana Boats, ‘Fly Fish’, ‘Kayak’, River Safari and many more features.
To enhance infrastructure facilities to the adjoining ‘public tourism leisure park’ built and maintained by Sri Lanka Tourism, the hotel will build a ‘fast food restaurant’ open from 10 am to 10 p.m. offering star class meals at affordable prices to the public. “We will be building a modern kitchen and deploying special staff to maintain this operation,” said General Manager Avani Bentota Channa Ekanayake.
“Fast food like kottu, burgers, fruit juices, a variety of ice creams and desserts would be served and take away service too would be available. In addition, we will also upgrade adjoining the rooftop bar ‘the loft’ allowing public access to it.”
In addition, the hotel operated under the Avani brand and maintains its high standards and offers a large AC and open area restaurant famous for its large spread of dining options which is a major draw to the hotel. The revamped Avani Bentota Resort modernized facilities, also feature two dining outlets, a Balinese spa, a compact and modern gymnasium, ‘Chatters bar’ air-conditioned pool table area and a large garden and two large swimming pools.
The hotel is also synonymous with ‘destination weddings’ where foreign wedding couples, and their invitees are offered a complete package that includes a colourful wedding ceremony, registration approvals from their respective Embassies, rooms on a full board basis and many more. The resort also has two conferencing and event venues for MICE facilities.
General Manager Channa Ekanayake, having started as a trainee from Galadari Colombo and worked for multiple star class hotels around the globe from Dubai, Oman, Yemen, Libya, Bermuda, USA, Singapore and Nigeria said that one of the biggest attractions for Avani Bentota Resort is its location in the heart of the Golden Mile large beach.
A Diploma Holder from the Hotels School said that this and a high standard of service are major factors to woo a large number of repeat guests mainly from the UK and Europe who have visited the hotel over 20 times with a minimum average stay of around two weeks.
