In connection with the investigation into the recent discovery of drugs and narcotics at a school cafeteria in Malvatuhiripitiya, Gampaha, Criminal  Investigation Officers have arrested an Ayurvedic doctor who allegedly distributed intoxicant drugs in the Gampaha area with 6,676 drug capsules together with Rs. 5.5 million in cash which is said to have been earned by him from the sale of drugs in one day.

The drugs and money had been found at a medical centre run by the 68-year-old Ayurvedic doctor at Rukmalgahawatte in Nittambuwa during a search operation on Friday night.

Police also say that the person runs the centre as a child therapy centre. Investigations have revealed that apart from distributing drugs in bulk, this person also engages in retail selling using the location, where one drug capsule is sold at Rs. 300.

“Investigations have revealed that for this amount, he is selling a type of capsule with a market value of Rs. 40 and these capsules are used as a painkiller and are not dispensed from pharmacies without a doctor’s prescription.

As the prices of ‘ICE’ and heroin have risen, more and more drug addicts are now addicted to these types of drugs,” Police said.

In addition to this, it has been found that the youth, including school students are rapidly becoming addicted to the use of these drugs in the investigations conducted by the Police Narcotics Bureau.
