The Anuradhapura Police said that investigations have been started to arrest a woman who left a baby girl in the Anuradhapura Hospital’s maternity ward and took a one-day-old boy from there.

This investigation has been started according to a complaint made by a 42-year-old woman resident of Anuradhapura.

The police said that the complainant woman had given birth to a boy on October 24.

It has been found that the suspect woman had changed the number tag of the baby boy at the ward. The police said that when a nurse brought the baby boy for the mother to feed, the mother of the boy had seen that there was no number tied to the child’s hand.

When she had later asked the nurse to give her child back for breast-feeding, the nurse had told the complainant that a woman had changed the tag and left the hospital with her (the complainant’s) baby.

The police said that the 32-year-old female suspect from Padavi Sripura, who allegedly took off the number tag tied to the wrist of the baby boy and took him away, has been referred to a psychiatrist and will be arrested and brought to court after leaving the hospital.
