Ban on nine plastic items from October 1

The Central Environmental Authority has taken action to ban nine plastic items that are considered for one-time-use being sold and produced in the country from October 1 this year.

The Central Environmental Authority asad that the Gazette notification in that connection has been issued by the Environment Minister Nazeer Ahamed. Accordingly nine items such as plastic straws, plastic stirrers, single use plastic dishes,cups, spoons, forks and knives, plastic garlands, plastic string hopper holders have been banned from use.

Producing these items within the country, exporting for the purpose of domestic use, selling, promoting or marketing for the purpose of selling, displaying for the purpose of selling, distributing without charge or exhibiting such items is banned from October 1.

The Central Environmental Authority further stated that any violation of this order will be strictly dealt with under the laws legal stipulations laid down in the National Environmental Act.
