Bangladesh grants 54 essential drugs

The Bangladesh Prime Minister on a request made by Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella will grant 54 types of essential medicines as a grant to the country.

The country will receive the relevant stock of drugs worth US$ 58,307 by next week.

As a solution to the current shortage of medicines, the Health Minister personally intervened and responded positively to this request made by the Prime Minister and took the necessary steps to receive the stock of medicines in this country.

The Health Ministry said the many essential drugs including cancer and kidney drugs will be sent.

Health Minister Rambukwella expressed his special thanks to the Bangladesh Prime Minister and the Health Minister and the Government of Bangladesh for the provision of this medicine by promptly responding to his request.

The minister said that this is a solution to the existing shortage of medicines, and as a long-term programme, a state-level memorandum of understanding regarding medicines will be signed between the governments of Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, which will enable the country to import the required medicines.

The Minister points out that many short-term, medium-term and long-term programmes are being taken to prevent shortage of drugs in the country in the future.
