Basil made payments for all VIP services provided at BIA
Former Minister Basil Rajapkasa has made payments for all the VIP services provided to him at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) on his arrival in the country on November 20, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) General Secretary Attorney-at-Law Sagara Kariyawasam said yesterday.
Speaking to the media at the SLPP head office in Battaramulla, Kariyawasam said that Rajapaksa and his wife have paid USD 200 each for the use of the VIP lounge of the airport and payments have also been paid for the refreshments provided to the visitors including the MPs who were present at the airport premises to welcome him on that day.He condemned the allegations that the expenditures for these services were borne by the Government.
Responding to the claims that Rajapaksa had used the VIP Lounge on arrival in the country at a time he was not holding any position in the Government, the General Secretary said any person can use the VIP Lounge after making a payment of USD 200 and therefore this is not a misuse of public property.
“As a political party we have never misused public property and we will never do so. We are doing clean politics. Those who level these allegations may think that we are also like them,” Kariyawasam further said.
