Beach Volleyball Tourney to celebrate 75th Independence
Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation will conduct the first Central Asian Beach Volleyball Tournament as part of its plans to conduct volleyball and beach volleyball tournaments to celebrate the 75th Independence Day. The Volleyball Federation said in a statement that the tournament is a brainchild of Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa.
The first Central Asian Beach Volleyball Tournament, organized by the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation under the supervision of the Asian Volleyball Federation and the Central Asian Volleyball Federation, will be held from February 18 to 20 at the Negombo Beach Park.
The tournament will be held for both men and women and will feature Iran, Uzbekistan, Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
The opening ceremony of the tournament will be held at 08.00 am on today (February 18) under the patronage of the President of the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation, Vice President of the National Olympic Committee Kanchana Jayaratne and Mayor of Negombo Dayan Lansa.
Each participating country will field two teams in the men’s and women’s categories, while hosts will be represented by three teams each.
The winners will receive the Independence Trophy and a cash award of US $ 1500.00. The first and second runner-ups will receive US $ 1,000.00 and US $ 500.00 respectively.
Matches will be held from 8.00 am to 12.00 noon and from 3.00 pm to 9.00 pm.
