BELARUS: Ukraine’ neighbour Belarus has passed a constitutional referendum revoking its non-nuclear status and paving the way for Russian nuclear weapons to be placed in the country.

According to The Kyiv Independent, 65.16 per cent of citizens allegedly supported these constitutional amendments. Belarus leader Alexander Lukashenko has also significantly extended his executive powers.

Additionally, multiple sources have said that Belarus will be joining Russia’s war on Ukraine very soon. According to The Kyiv Independent, the first Ilyushin Il-76 transport aircraft is very likely to take off soon carrying Belarusian paratroopers to be deployed against Ukraine.

On Sunday, Russia sent a delegation to Minsk in Belarus and said it was willing to conduct peace talks with Ukraine there. However, Ukraine President Zelensky said he would not engage in peace negotiations in a country from where missiles were being launched on his nation. Later, Ukraine agreed to hold peace talks with Russia at the Belarus border. Meanwhile, more than 500 people have been detained in Belarus for protesting against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, according to the country’s most prominent human rights group, the Viasna human rights centre.

Demonstrations against the war spanned at least 12 cities. In the capital Minsk, demonstrators marched in different parts of the city carrying Ukrainian flags. A large pile of flowers kept growing at the building of Ukraine’s Embassy.
