BOC launches Export Circle in conjunction with 82nd Anniversary
Chairman of the Bank of Ceylon Kanchana Ratwatte said that the Bank of Ceylon which has always followed State financial policies and shouldered the responsibilities of the tasks of economic development of each government from era to era. The bank has joined the ‘Saubaghyaye Dekma’ of the present government and implemented the ‘Divi Udana’ Loan Scheme on behalf of raising the standards of small and medium scale industries and the ‘Sashreeka’ Loan Scheme to promote the manufacture of organic fertilizer and to encourage it. “It is at the bungalow of the first chairman of Bank of Ceylon Sir Ernest De Silva, where the Prime Minister’s office is located. Therefore, I commend the Prime Minister for having given the Temple Trees premises for celebrating the 82 Anniversary of the Bank of Ceylon.”
“There was an economic growth rate of 6 % by 2014 in Sri Lanka. The State Bank rate of interest was at a single figure between 8-9%. The previous government took over a country which had a very good economic growth. However, by 2019, the bank’s rate of interest had increased to between 15-16%t and the single figure tax rate that prevailed in 2014 also increased to 15%.”
Chief Manager of the Bank of Ceylon D. P. K. Gunasekera said that it was the Samagi Peramuna government, represented by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa which took the Bank of Ceylon to the villages giving the opportunity to transact with the Bank. As of today, there are 9,000 talented and educated employees at the Bank.”
Travelling throughout the country and meeting businessmen engaged in the fishing industry, tea estates and farmers, broad opportunities were created within the Bank of Ceylon. “That is why we were able to increase our income by 116 percent in comparison to the past years.”
In conjunction with this function, a documentary, a reflection of the past and launching the 82-anniversary symbol were held. Chief Manager of the Bank of Ceylon, D. P. K. Gunasekera received the award for the most senior Bank of Ceylon employee from Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa. A group of senior officials of the Bank of Ceylon together with State Minister Shehan Semasinghe, Secretary to the President Gamini Senerath and Governor of the Central Bank Professor W. D. Lakshman participated in the event.
