Her remains were exhumed at the Dayagama tea estate cemetery in the presence of a special medical team appointed to perform a second post mortem examination on Court orders.
Later the body was taken to the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital for the second post-mortem.
The second post mortem examination will be conducted by the three-member specialist medical team headed by Prof. Jean Perera – Professor of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo appointed by the Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena on the recommendations of the Attorney General.
The girl was hospitalized with burn injuries on July 3 while working as a domestic aide at MP Bathiudeen’s residence in Colombo. She died on the 15th while receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of the Colombo National Hospital. However, the post mortem examination has revealed that the girl had been sexually abused for some time.
The victim was a resident of Diyagama West.
Several members of the Parliamentarian’s family were later arrested in connection with the incident.
