Three persons including the owner of a Foreign Employment agency who defrauded over Rs. 10.9 million from several people by promising lucrative jobs in foreign countries, were arrested by officers of the Special Investigation Division of the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau on Sunday (25).

Accordingly, the Bureau conducted the investigation and arrested the main suspect, a resident of Paragahadeniya, Kurunegala, together with another person including a woman. The suspects appeared before the Kurunegala Magistrate’s Court on Sunday (25) and were remanded until June 30.

The Bureau has requested job seekers to find out more details about such job agencies before giving money to any organisation or person for obtaining foreign employment. Further details can be obtained by visiting the Bureau’s website or by calling the hotline 1989.

This foreign employment agency has previously recruited people for foreign jobs with a license from the bureau, but then the bureau has subsequently suspended the license of that agency due to allegations of fraud.
