The case filed alleging misappropriation of Rs.36 billion worth of Treasury bonds at the Central Bank of Sri Lanka bond auction on March 29, 2016 was taken up in court yesterday. When the case was taken up yesterday Attorney General Department informed court that Arjun Mahendran and Ajahan Gardiye Punchihewa, who have been named as the accused, have evaded court and are abroad.
Accordingly, the prosecution conducted testimonies before the court to conduct a trial without the both accused.After considering the evidence, the bench allowed the prosecution to proceed with the case without the presence of the two accused and fixed the case for further trial on August 26. The indictments were filed against ten accused in the Colombo High Court by the Attorney General. They are; Perpetual Treasuries Private Ltd, former Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayke, CBSL former Governor Arjuna Mahendran, Perpetual Treasuries Limited (PTL) beneficiary owner Arjun Aloysius, PTL Chief dealer Kasun Palisena, Chairman of PTL Jeffrey Joseph Aloysius, Chitta Ranjan Hulugalle, Muthuraja Surendran, Ajahn Gardiye Punchihewa, Badugoda Hewa Indika Saman Kumara.
