The Wushu Federation of Sri Lanka (WFSL) and the Sports Development Department signed an agreement to improve the technical standard of the wushu players last Monday at the Sport Ministry Auditorium. The signing of the agreement was overseen by Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa.

As part of this agreement the WFSL will be able to provide enhanced specialized training to Wushu players, providing latest equipment to improve the technical standard of the game, as well as seek the input of foreign trainers with next year’s Asian Games in mind.

In addition the enhanced Taskforce of the Wushu Federation will provide a sum of over Rs. 46.7 million. The much needed special training center for the Wushu players also provided with this agreement.

Meanwhile SL Wushu squad will also be able to obtain the services of an Iranian and a Chinese trainer respectively. It was also revealed at the event that 10 players who will be selected after the Junior Wushu Championship to be held in March next year, will be sent for specialized training in China as part of the agreement. The National Sports Council headed by Mehela Jayawardena and High Performance Committee already identified Wushu as a medal winning sport at the international arena. This is the main reason Sports Ministry decided to give much needed infrastructure facilities for this sport.”This will be a good investment on Wushu players and we hope they will bring more international medals,” said Sports Minister. “We also wanted to popular this sport and bring more talented players to National and International levels”.
