Bourse continues positive momentum, turnover above Rs. 1.5 billion

Bourse commenced the week on a positive note as retail favourites continued to strengthen over improved sentiment. All-Share Price Index increased by 18.8 points (+0.2%) to close at 8,862.7 for the day whilst S&P SL20 Index also marginally increased by 1.9 points (+0.1%) to close at 2,829.7. Richard Pieris, Lanka IOC, Expolanka Holdings, First Capital Holdings and Ceylon Cold Stores remained as the top positive contributors to the ASPI during the day.

Index started on a solid footing yet gradually witnessed a sideways movement as investor activity slowed down ahead of the upcoming holiday season.

Despite recording lower volume, the market managed to sustain the positive momentum and closed the day at 8,863, gaining 19 points. Moreover, treasury counters witnessed a substantial gain during the day as investors speculated rates to ease in the upcoming largest value issue of the T-Bond auction of LKR 160.0 Bn, which is scheduled to be held tomorrow.

In the midst of lower investor participation, turnover was recorded at LKR 1.6 Bn remaining below 18% cf. monthly average turnover of LKR 2.0 Bn.

Meanwhile, Diversified Financials and Transportation sectors led the market turnover which accounted for a contribution of 29% and 20%, respectively.
