Boy carried away in Deltota stream found

A student in the Deltota area, who went to cross a stream to go home got caught in the current of the canal went missing due to the heavy rains on Wednesday (11) evening.

The ten-year-old school student named Kandipan Diwan, was to appear for the Grade 5 scholarship examination on Sunday.

The accident happened when he was going home in the midst of heavy rain after attending an extra class held at his school, Little Valley Tamil College, for the upcoming scholarship examination. A large body of water had flowed in this area with the heavy rain at that moment.

The Galaha police and local residents have been searching for the child since yesterday evening and the book bag of the student who was swept away by the flood was found on the bank of the canal below the place last night and the body which was washed away about two kilometres away from the place was found in the Deltota Watta canal yesterday morning.

The post-mortem will be conducted at the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital today. Galaha Police is conducting further investigations.
