Bridegroom, guests fined for violating health guidelines
A bridegroom was fined Rs.20,000 for holding a wedding in Sandilipay, Jaffna in violation of the COVID-19 health regulations. The other attendees were fined Rs.5,000 each by the Mallakam Magistrate.
Approximately, 47 people who attended the wedding were quarantined for two weeks by Point Pedro health officials and the fines were imposed when they were produced before Courts on completion of their quarantine period.
The Magistrate strongly warned the bridegroom that he could be sentenced to six months in prison and also warned those present at the wedding not to violate COVID-19 health regulations again.
