Buddhika Rajitha Dikkumbura – talented TT Player cum Coach.

Forty four year old, Buddhika Rajitha Dikkumbura, an old boy of Vidyartha College,Kandy is one of the leading Table Tennis Coaches in the Island at present and he has produced a number of outstanding Table Tennis players from many Schools. He is training the TT players throughout the year to be Champions in Table Tennis to be selected for SAF Games, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games as well as sending a Competitor for Olympics. As a TT player Buddhika started practicing under the veteran TT Coaches Sunil Abeygunasekera and Rahal Abeyratne from 1985 onwards. In time to come with the proper guidance of his TT Coaches he became a TT Champion in School level, Provincial and All Island Level under all age groups from Under Ten to Nineteen. Once he left School he won a number of Table Tennis open tournaments and got selected to represent Sri Lanka at the SAF Games held in 1994.

While continuing as a TT player Buddhika got through the Level I and II TT Coaching Courses and started his coaching career for Boys and Girls of Maliyadewa Boys & Girls Schools, Kurunegala while coaching his alma mater, Vidyartha College,Kandy. Buddika continued his TT coaching in other Schools like Mahamaya Girls School,Kandy and in the meantime got through the Level III Coaching course to become a High Performance TT Coach and started producing National and International Level TT Players like Udaya Ranasinghe who became a National TT Champion for Seven consecutive years from 2013 onwards. Apart from Udaya he has produced outstanding TT players like Ridmi Karadanarachchi, who became Runners-up at the TT Nationals and Supun Warusavithana, Nirmala Jayasinghe, Dimanthi Bandara, Thanushi Rodrigo who were some of his International level male and female

TT players. Under Buddhika’s Coaching Sri Lanka won the Junior SAF TT Championship held in India in 2015 and won the same tournament held in Pakistan in 2016. Buddika’s intention is to produce more talented TT players in future to represent Sri Lanka in International Table Tennis tournaments for as long as he is in a position to do so.
