Havelock Sports Club, with a blend of youth and experience are gearing up for another fantastic season as they look to regain the coveted SLR Nippon Paint Inter-Club League Championship for 2022/23.

Last time, the Havies put up a splendid performance but had to be content with the runners-up place as the tournament was suspended after the first-round due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It was no doubt a rude shock for the Park Club as they were trailing by just five points from the leaders having lost only to the ultimate champions Kandy SC 15-22 at the Nittawela Stadium.

In fact, the last season was one of their best in the recent past as they had the satisfaction of defeating their traditional rivals CR and FC by a massive margin of 53-3 at Longden Place having earlier beaten the CH and FC twice 20-17 at Havelock Park in the first-round and 38-15 at the Race course Grounds in a second-round fixture. The Havies also went on to beat Navy SC (21-5), Army SC (36-14), Air Force SC (26-22) and Police SC (21-17) before the tournament came to a standstill with the Super Round segment not completed.

Even then, Havelock SC had a shock start to their campaign this year as they were beaten by the traditional rivals CR and FC 11-13 in the opening encounter but managed to snatch a thrilling 36-35 win over Air Force SC in their second outing.

They have retained some of their stalwarts in the form of Mithun Hapugoda, Chanaka Chandimal, Azmir Fajudeen, Senal Deelaka, Ramesh Fernando and Christian De Lile who have been with the Park Club for a long period of time.

In addition, veteran Shenal Dias has also returned to the side and will strengthen their forwards while centre Dinupa Senevirathne and second row forward Raveen Fernando are the young talented players in the line-up.

The Havies will be quite pleased with their performances in their first two outings where fly half Sandesh Jayawickrama has taken the spotlight with his superb place-kicking while winger Randitha Warnapura has shown glimpse of his talent and potential with two superb tries.
