Bus driver who threatened PC arrested

The suspect threatening PC.

Welikada Police said that the driver of a private bus who threatened a Police Constable,

saying,” You will be treated with respect and sent off because of your uniform, otherwise I will pick you up and dash you on the ground was arrested in Neelammahara, Maharagama.

Police said that while a Constable of the Welikada Police Traffic Division had been on duty near a church in Rajagiriya day before yesterday (1) a private bus plying from Hettiyawatte to Nugegoda had parked outside of the bus stop area. At that time, the Constable had pointed out this mistake to the bus driver and while preparing to issue a ticket, the suspect driver had extended his hand towards the constable and threatened him saying, ‘Send me to the Court or anywhere else if you can’t, fine is not that big of a deal, don’t stand on the road, remember, I will run you over and kill you. I don’t care who it is, my name is Dilshan, listen carefully,” and driven off in the bus.

The Constable had recorded the suspect driver threatening him, using his mobile phone.

The suspect is to be produced before Court.

Investigations are being carried out on the instructions of the Officer-In-Charge of the Welikada OIC, Chief Inspector Lakshman de Silva.
