Bus, lorry, truck imports can now be cleared from port – State Minister
Finance State Minister Dr. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said that under the permission given to import buses used for public transport, lorries and trucks needed for special purposes, permission is also given to release vehicles that have been imported and detained at the Customs during the import ban period.
The State Minister said that the vehicles that have not been given Customs declarations can be released by paying a 30% tax on the CIF value after reporting to the Import and Export Controller General.
Buses used for public transport, lorries and trucks used for special purposes and goods transport has been allowed to import since Monday (14) midnight. He said that vehicles used for special purposes such as lorries used for removing garbage and fire engines are also allowed to be imported under this. The State Minister mentioned that allowing the import of buses will lead to the strengthening of passenger transport facilities and the promotion of the tourism industry.
