Police said that on March 24, a businessman was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Unit of the Boralesgamuwa Police at University Road in Rattanapitiya, along with eight expensive, high-powered motorcycles worth over Rs. 70 million.
The suspect is a resident of Dehiwala, aged 40, and is a leading businessman.
This raid was carried out by officers of Boralesgamuwa Police Anti-Corruption Unit according to information received by the special operations team of the Mount Lavinia Division attached to the Western Province Intelligence Division.
When the warehouse of the Rattanapitiya businessman was checked, six motorcycles with documents that seemed to indicate they were registered and two motorcycles for which the businessman had no documents at all, were taken into police custody. The police said that the motorcycles were of the brands Yamaha, Honda, BMW Motorrad, Kawasaki, Agusta and Ducati and were worth more Rs. 8 million.
The police said that in order to ascertain whether the registered motorcycles had been registered at the Office of the Commissioner of Motor Transport with fake documents, the motorcycles are being submitted to the officers of the department and to the Government Analyst, to be checked after which further investigations will be conducted.
