The Mannar Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Sahul Hameed Mohamed Mujahir, had sought his reinstatement after the Northern Province Governor announced his dismissal on September 12.
According to the Governor’s gazette notification, the Chairman has been deprived of the opportunity to serve as a member of the Mannar Pradeshiya Sabha and the reasons given were that the investigations carried out against the Chairman had proved that he had been involved in fraud and corruption by abusing his power.
Although the Chairman requested that he be reinstated, there was no response to that request. The Chairman had filed a petition in the Court of Appeal seeking an order to reappoint him as Chairman of the Mannar Pradeshiya Sabha stating that the decision taken by the Governor was not justified.
Accordingly, the Court of Appeal has issued an interim order on the Governor’s gazette notification and directed to all respondents in the petition, including the Northern Province Governor, named as respondents by the Mannar Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman, by October 27.
