
Suvaathiny Mohanarajah being awarded the title of ‘Youngest CA Member of the Year – 2023’
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) once again empowered the corporate world by ushering in three hundred and forty three new Chartered Accountants, who will chart the course of the ever-evolving corporate landscape, armed with their versatile and diverse skills and expertise.
At the Annual Convocation 2023 of CA Sri Lanka held on October 19, new Chartered Accountants were conferred with the distinguished Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA) designation, while another 340 existing members of CA Sri Lanka were elevated to the Fellow Chartered Accountant (FCA) status.
The convocation was graced by Russel Fonseka, General Manager of Bank of Ceylon, Sanjaya Bandara, President of CA Sri Lanka, Heshana Kuruppu, Vice President, Tishan Subasinghe, Chairman of the Member Relations Committee and Lakmali Priyangika, Acting Chief Executive Officer.
Fonseka said that becoming a Chartered Accountant requires dedication and commitment that are beyond the comprehension of technical skills. “It is my earnest expectation that you will add value to the country’s economic profile as professionals at this juncture where the contributions of CA Sri Lanka’s Professional Accountants are very crucial.”
CA Sri Lanka, Fonseka also said that the CA qualification opened numerous career pathways for him as the demand for Chartered Accountants have always been high. “As we move into unprecedented times with technological advancements while experiencing high concerns for environmental and social wellbeing, it is required to balance profit interests with these concerns, and being a Chartered Accountant is the right profession to strike this balance.”
Bandara emphasised the importance of upholding the cornerstones of integrity, ethics, transparency and accountability at all costs, especially in a world that is constantly evolving and where challenges are diverse and often unpredictable.
“Remember, the decisions you make, the advice you provide and the actions you take will impact not just the organisations you serve but the lives of countless individuals and the broader society. The choices you make will shape the future, so always embrace the cornerstones of ethics, integrity, transparency and accountability because the world is watching you,” Bandara said.
He said that this is the beginning of a prestigious journey for the new ACAs and FCAs. “Work diligently, remain committed to the highest standards of professionalism, and success will undoubtedly be your constant companion,” Bandara added.
At the convocation, CA Sri Lanka also bestowed the inaugural ‘President’s Award for Most Outstanding New Member – 2023’ to Chandrasegaran Shabilnath, while Suvaathiny Mohanarajah was awarded the title of ‘Youngest CA Member of the Year – 2023.’
