CAA destroys canned fish worth over Rs.10 Mn

A consignment of canned fish worth over Rs.10 million which is unfit for human consumption was destroyed in the presence of Kuliyapitiya Magistrate by the Consumer Affairs Authority yesterday This consignment of canned fish was taken into custody

by the CAA officials during a raid conducted at a wholesale storage complex in Galayaya, Pannala on June 20, 2022.

16,150 packs of the relevant canned fish stock were taken into custody by the CAA officers attached to its Kurunegala District office.

This canned fish stock was prepared to be released to the market by altering details in the label when the CAA official raided the warehouse.

Officials later filed facts in the Kuliyapitiya Magistrate’s court.Accordingly, the stock was destroyed yesterday on the order of the Kuliyapitiya Magistrate’s Court.
