CAA detects 104 violations in islandwide raids on lunch sheets, polythene bags

The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has detected 104 violations during islandwide raids targeting lunch sheets and LDPE/LLDPE “sili-sili” bags.

The inspections, conducted on Sept. 15 across 22 districts, identified around 43 violations involving lunch sheets, 58 involving “sili-sili” bags and three other polythene-related violations.

The CAA said stocks of lunch sheets that failed to comply with prescribed labelling requirements were seized as case productions for legal action.

Under existing regulations, specified LDPE/LLDPE bags cannot be provided free of charge to consumers. Their prices must be clearly displayed, while any amount charged must also be included on the customer’s bill.

The CAA said follow-up investigations would be carried out along the supply chain, including suppliers, distributors and manufacturers, while inspections and raids would continue islandwide. (Newswire)
