Cabinet allocates additional provisions for payment of widows, widowers & orphans’ pensions

The Cabinet of Ministers took into account that measures have been taken to grant the allocation of Rs.19,000 million under the vote of the Department of Pensions through the special rules authority permit (supplementary) signed by the Minister of Finance

An approximate amount of Rs. 300,000 million is to be borne by the General Treasury as pension benefits for the public service officers for the year 2021 while an amount of Rs.35,500 million has been allocated exclusively for widows, widowers and orphans’ pensions.

An amount of Rs. 26,367 million out of the amount is spent by 30th June 2021 and an additional amount of Rs. 19,000 million is required additionally.

The provisions required for the payment of widows, widowers and orphans’ pensions are allocated under ‘special rules provisions while the powers to this is vested with the Minister of Finance under the sub – statute (2) of statute 150 of the Constitution.
