Education Minister Dr. Susil Premajayantha told Parliament yesterday that the Cabinet Memorandum to eliminate the salary anomalies of the non-academic staff in state universities will be submitted to the Cabinet Sub-Committee today.
The Minister said this while replying to the question raised by MP Gamini Waleboda regarding the strike launched by university non-academic staff currently.
The Minister said that the university non-academic and academic staff were provided with a salary increase in 2016 and there was a 92 percent increase in the salary of the non-academic staff and a 107 percent increase in the academic staff. However, the trade unions consider the 15 percent gap as a salary cut for non-academic staff. But, no one had even taken steps to resolve this issue.
He said he as the Minister in charge had held several rounds of discussions and presented a Cabinet paper which is scheduled to be submitted to the Cabinet Sub-Committee today.
