Cache of ammo found in cupboard

The Kalutara Crime Division said that a stock of explosives which had been stored secretly was found in the Gungamuwa area of Bandaragama. A person who had allegedly stored them has been arrested by the Police. Along with the suspect, 8 kgs and 500 grams of ammonia, 444 grams of gunpowder, 45 detonators, 23 capsules of water gel and 14 pieces of service thread of various sizes have been taken into Police custody.

The raid was carried out after a long investigation conducted for many days according to confidential information received by the Western Province Intelligence Division that a stock of explosives had been hidden illegally. The Police found the stock of explosives hidden in a small locked cupboard, and the suspect failed to produce any licence to the Police.

Police say that investigations are underway to know if this illegal stock of explosives was stored with the intention of committing any crime or stored to be sold.

The suspect is to be produced before the Horana Magistrate’s Court.
