Cannabis cultivation detected in Narammala

The Narammala Police raided a cannabis plantation yesterday which was cultivated in a land in the village of Muruthanne in Narammala under the guise of running a betel and chilli plantation. 

A senior police officer said that no cannabis plantation was found in this area before this. Cannabis was cultivated in a portion of about 40 perches of this land spread over about 110 perches. Cannabis has been grown on this land by the land owner. Police say he is a farmer. In response to questions, he has said that he decided to grow cannabis after the betel that he cultivated on this land was destroyed due to some disease. The suspect is to be produced in court.
