A special search operation conducted by the Navy in the Kaddaikadu beach area of Veththalakerni on Friday (5), led to the recovery of cannabis weighing over 53kgs.
The Navy conducts regular search operations in the coastal and sea areas countrywide, with a view to prevent the influx of drugs into the country. The Naval Deployment Veththalakerni in the Northern Naval Command mounted this search operation in the Kaddaikadu beach area on Friday.
During this operation, Naval personnel recovered 15 suspicious packages left behind at the coastal vicinity and recovered cannabis weighing about 53kgs and 800g in them. The stock of cannabis was subsequently taken into the Naval custody.
The gross street value of the consignment of cannabis is believed to be over Rs. 21 million. The stock of cannabis has been kept in the Naval custody until they are handed over to authorities for onward legal action.
