Can’t give character certificate about Ratnayake – NPP

Gampaha District NPP MP Vijitha Herath told Parliament yesterday (24) that he is not ready to give a character certificate about Janaka   Ratnayake as he too has criticisms. He said that since Ratnayake did not want to implement suggestions by the International Monetary Fund, he started getting fed up with the government. The MP said this while commenting on the motion to remove the Public Utilities Commission chairman. He also said that he is not ready to give any character certificate about Janaka Ratnayake who was appointed by the government.

The MP further said: The Public Utilities Commission was established to meet the needs of fuel, coal and public utilities.We remember that former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa tried to abolish the existing Commission completely. The former members of the Commission were pressured to resign from membership. The Gotabaya government then created it to fulfill its political needs. Janaka Ratnayake was appointed by this government. Before becoming the Chairman of the Commission, he held positions in various financial institutions of the government.When the electricity bill could not be increased, Janaka Ratnayake continued to attack.
