Case against Keheliya, former SPC Chairman fixed for further pre-trial

The bribery case filed against Health and Water Supply Minister Keheliya Rambukwella and former State Printing Corporation (SPC) Chairman Jayampathi Heenkenda was on Thursday fixed for further pre-trial on March 9 by the Colombo High Court.

The case was taken up before Colombo High Court Judge Damith Thotawatta. At a previous occasion, the Colombo High Court served indictment to two accused including Health and Water Supply Minister Keheliya Rambukwella alleging that they caused a loss to the Government by paying nearly Rs.230,000 from State Printing Corporation Funds for a private mobile phone while serving as the Mass Media Minister in 2012.

Following the serving of indictments, the accused were ordered to release on cash bails of Rs.30,000 and sureties of Rs.350,000 by Colombo High Court Judge Damith Thotawatta. The Bribery Commission filed indictment in the Colombo High Court against Health and Water Supply Minister Keheliya Rambukwella and former State Printing Corporation Chairman Jayampathi Heenkenda alleging that they have committed an offense of corruption under the Bribery Act during the period from May 1 to May 30, 2012, while acting as the Minister of Mass Media, causing a loss to the Government by forcing officials to pay an amount of Rs.230, 000 which was to be paid for his personal mobile phone.
